The loss of a tooth is not something that is ideal, of course. At the practice of Michael Kushner DDS, every effort is made to save your natural teeth, but there are times when that is simply not possible. When you need to have a tooth removed, our 10302 extractions are done expertly and gently, providing maximum comfort for you.
Why would you need to have a tooth taken out? Typically, the reasons are advanced tooth decay, an infection that cannot be effectively treated with root canal therapy, or supporting structure that have made the tooth no longer viable. You can limit the chances of needing our 10302 extractions by coming in every six months for a complete oral examination and teeth cleaning, along with adhering to a routine of brushing your teeth and flossing every single day. But no matter how well you conduct your oral hygiene, and even if you never miss an appointment for a checkup, you could still end up with a tooth in jeopardy. You’ve no need to worry, though, because our dentist will make certain that you are sufficiently numb with local anesthesia before the procedure begins. You will notice the sense of pressure being exerted, but not any pain. When the tooth has been completely removed, the area will be stitched up so it can heal. To support that, you should avoid all but soft foods for the first 24 hours after our 10302 extractions, rinse frequently with warm salt water, and avoid physical exertion. Any swelling can be managed with an ice pack. Likewise, take over-the-counter pain relief medication if you have residual discomfort when the anesthesia wears off.
